Mikhail Zakin (1920-2012) was an artist and potter who founded the Old Church Cultural Center and Art School, now The Art School at Old Church in Demarest, New Jersey. With her mentor Karen Karnes, she was a force in the burgeoning field of ceramic art in the 1950s and beyond. She was known for her unique salt-glazed pieces. Mikhail Zakin talks about how she came to pottery and about the many different paths she traveled during her life in this 2003 State of the Arts story.
