Description

“New Jersey as Non-Site” at the Princeton University Art Museum (10/5/13 — 1/5/14) explored how the state became a hot bed of experimental art in the 1950s, ’60s, and ’70s. The exhibition was curated by Kelly Baum, who had rare access to the letters and other documents of sculptor George Segal, which were left to the university.

State of the Arts was there as Fluxus artist and Rutgers University professor emeritus Geoffrey Hendricks presided over a special recreation of his 1969 happening “The Sky is the Limit.” Also included in “New Jersey as Non-Site” were little-known photographs by Segal, New Jersey-based site works by Earthworks artist Robert Smithson, and more.
