Description

Artists question the meaning and politics of portraiture in “Mirror Mirror” at the Paul Robeson Galleries at Express Newark. State of the Arts was there for the opening, meeting artists Tatyana Fazlalizadeh (“Stop Telling Women to Smile”) and Leo Selvaggio (“URME Surveillance“), two of the 32 international artists and one artist collective featured.

Student Nija Williams of the Rutgers University-Newark “Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation” coalition talks about the power of art. Also featured is a “Selfie Portraiture” workshop led by Newark-based artist Kevin Darmanie, whose comic book works (“Master of Reality” and “Kendar”) are featured in “Mirror Mirror.”
