Description

“The Convert” premiered in January 2012 at the McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton, NJ. It’s written by Danai Gurira, a young Zimbabwe-American playwright who is also an accomplished actor. Currently, she’s starring as Michonne in “The Walking Dead.” “The Convert” tells the story of a 19th century Zimbabwean village girl who escapes a forced marriage to a man with multiple wives by embracing Christianity. In the process, she is freed from oppressive traditions, but her ties to her family are tested as well. “The Convert” is the first in a series of plays Gurira plans to write about Zimbabwean history and identity.

Produced by Susan Wallner.
